At 11:53 the Critical Control Centre received a call from a member of the public stating a combine harvester was on fire in a field.
Appliances from Padstow and St Columb Major were initially mobilized. On arrival crews quickly requested further appliances from Newquay and a water carrier from Liskeard due to the fire spreading through a corn field.
At 12:15 crews reported an area of 200M by 50M of field alight, including a combine harvester.
A wholetime officer on scene informed the Critical Control Centre at 12:46hrs that good progress was being made, fire breaks were being setup with the assistance of the farmer. 3 hose reel jets and beaters were being used.
Update at 13:04 - crews remain on scene damping down hotspots. The cause is believed to be accidental.
Update at 15:00 - all crews are now back at their home stations
Don’t Become a Statistic!
Every year we attend numerous fires on farms, where buildings and machinery are completely destroyed by fire, often with the loss of large amounts of stock, straw, hay, farm machinery, chemicals and even livestock.
We have produced a booklet in partnership with Cornish Mutual and NFU Mutual to help farms comply with the new fire laws.
The booklet contains the information on the following:
• What you’re required to do by law
• Fire safety risk assessments
• If a fire breaks out
• Controlled burning
• Dangerous substances
• Arson
