8.6 Environment and Heritage - Moving to 2016
The spectacular landscape and coastal scenery, natural and historic conservation and biodiversity interests described in Section 4 will continue to open up opportunities to experience and learn about wildlife, history, geology, culture and industry.
If the World Heritage Bid is successful, these natural and historic attributes will likely ensure that Cornwall remains one of the top holiday destinations in the UK and will become a draw for additional overseas visitors. However, that brings with it pressures that need to be successfully addressed, in terms of:
-
Managing access to the countryside and most sensitive areas.
-
Managing visitor numbers and the way in which they access the coast and countryside.
-
Ensuring biodiversity in the widest sense and through appropriate management practices for both routine and new works.
-
Respecting conservation issues with regards to regeneration initiatives and infrastructure works.
-
Considering the wider global climate change issues and local air quality impacts.
