1 Introduction
Cornwall is a remote, rural and maritime county set within the south west region of the UK. Its resident population has risen steadily during the period of the LTP1 to over 525,000, which is boosted significantly during the summer season by a large influx of visitors.

Transport and communication in support of economic well-being has been one of our main challenges in terms of delivery, particularly with regard to connectivity both beyond and within the County, given our well dispersed communities. The challenges have been taken up during the period of LTP1 and a comprehensive programme of improvements delivered. Many strategies were set in place for the longer term and these have been taken forward, together with lessons learned, into the LTP2.
