Annex 2 - Cornwall's Challenges and Concerns - The Evidence Base
The County
It is widely understood that most people travel in order to carry out another activity rather than for the simple act of travelling itself. Understanding the factors that are driving the changing face of Cornwall and the demographic, social and travel trends over the course of the next 10 or 20 years is a vital element in determining the long term transport strategy for the County.
A full analysis of all related factors has been carried out, both in terms of current trends and future challenges and concerns. This has ensured that the necessary evidence base has informed the proposed programme of delivery on the ground through this LTP2 and beyond. A wide range of factors that have been taken into consideration, including:
- Physical geography
- Social context
- Economic context
- Environment and heritage
- Healthcare and education
- Tourism and leisure
- Travel to work, healthcare, education and shopping
- The impacts of travel
- Outcomes of wide ranging consultation exercises
- The Future - moving forward to 2016 and beyond
