Bus Strategy Aims

This Bus Strategy has been developed to contribute towards the 'shared' priorities, including: improving accessibility; relieving congestion; improving air quality and improving local road safety. The strategy also contributes towards the local LTP2 aims that broaden the objectives to include the economy and the environment.

The Bus Strategy will make a specific contribution towards meeting the LTP2 aims.  The role for the bus for each LTP2 aim is illustrated below.

Improve access to key services and facilities in Cornwall.
  • Utilising the bus network to improve access to work, healthcare, education, food shops and recreation to meet local needs by providing travel choice and reducing the need to travel, thereby supporting individual well being.
Improve local safety for all who travel in Cornwall
  • Support local communities by addressing the fear of crime particularly for pedestrians and users of public transport.
Reduce the growth of traffic congestion and transport related air pollution and improve public transport for Cornwall.
  • Enhancing the quality of the bus network and raising awareness to provide opportunities for travel choice and help to influence travel behaviour.
Provide and maintain an integrated transport network that contributes towards the development of a vibrant and successful Cornish economy and regeneration.
  • Delivering bus service improvements to support land use and regeneration strategies for the key Cornish towns.
  • Delivering bus service improvements to support the County's economic strategy.

  • Develop seasonal bus initiatives that help to conserve and enhance the natural and historic environment by minimising the impacts of transport.

All of the aims contribute towards the long term vision for Cornwall:

"Cornwall - a strong sustainable community for one and all"
