Fancy yourself
as a bit of an amateur artist? Haven’t drawn for years? Well,
even if you can’t draw a straight line Wonderful Words and the
Big Draw invite you to explore your creative side and rediscover
how enjoyable drawing can be. Inspired by the great Victorian
writer, artist and general visionary, John Ruskin, the aim of
the campaign is a very simple one: to get everyone looking at
the environment around them, and drawing it. It’s easy – all you
have to do is get yourself to a library on the right day.
So if you’ve got
a story you’ve been longing to tell but just couldn’t find the
right words, perhaps drawing might be the best way to go about
it.
We even have
some of Cornwall’s best artists ready and waiting to give you a
hand, or simply to lend some moral support. So, what are you
waiting for? The time has come to transform those wonderful
words into scintillating sketches and dramatic drawings… we’d
love to get you involved.

Your highly
approachable artists in residence will be Rebecca Diss at Hayle
and Camborne Libraries, Kat Dickinson at Launceston, Wadebridge
and Bude Libraries, and Sovay Berriman at Perranporth Library.
Rebecca Diss is a mixed media
artist, who has worked with us on the Big Draw in previous
years. She has a studio in Falmouth and enjoys running
professional artist led workshops. Her work encompasses multi
media installation, narrative, drawing and a variety of both two
and three dimensional pieces. Often investigating the themes
of time and memory, she explores the realms between fantasy and
reality, a space where children often play. Her workshops will
be inspired by Michael Foreman’s Dinosaurs and All That
Rubbish.
Sovay Berriman is a visual artist based in Cornwall; she
often uses non-traditional materials to make work that is
formally influenced by the landscape. Alongside her art practice
she currently runs the Foundation Course at Cornwall College,
Camborne.
Katharine
Dickinson is a landscape painter and sculptor who welcomes
visits to her studio in Camelford, on the edge of Bodmin Moor.
Since studying at Falmouth College of Art and the University of
Plymouth, she has done workshops with schools and she has had
seventeen solo exhibitions in Britain, Ireland and New Zealand.
Supported by HRH
The Prince of Wales, Duke of Cornwall.
