Colin Hatch, Senior Staff Officer with Cornwall County Fire Brigade, has been awarded an MBE for Services to Local Government in the New Year’s Honours List.

Colin joined Cornwall County Fire Brigade on 26th March 1979 and was initially stationed at Camborne Fire Station. He also worked at Falmouth, Bodmin, Penzance Fire Stations, as well as the Brigade’s Training Manager based at Bodmin. Following spells at Brigade Headquarters in Truro, Colin was the Divisional Commander for West Division before becoming the Brigade’s Senior Staff Officer based in Truro.

Colin has always been a keen sportsman within the Fire Service, and has held a number of elected positions. He is also very involved with his local community of Angarrack and has been an active worker for the famous Christmas Lights. He also assisted with the re-development of the community centre within the village.

“I feel very humbled but honoured to have been awarded an MBE in the New Years Honours list” said Colin Hatch.

“I am lucky and proud to work for Cornwall County Fire Brigade - an organisation that deals in saving lives, advising, educating and assisting people twenty four hours a day.”

“I am only a small part of a great team of firefighters, both Wholetime and Retained, emergency planners, fire control, and support staff. This MBE may have been awarded to me but in my view is deserved and shared with every one of them”.
