Firefighters from Bude had extinguished a fire in a chimney by 1945hrs.


General Fire Safety Advice:
Make a Clean Sweep of It!
Already this winter, Cornwall County Fire Brigade has been to a number of chimney fires. Last year the Brigade were called to 243 Chimney Fires. A recent incident has also highlighted the dangers of a blocked central heating flue where an elderly couple suffered from the effects of Carbon Monoxide poisoning. This can happen with any fossil fuel system (which includes both the appliance and the flue) if it is faulty or the room is not properly ventilated.

Most chimney fires are preventable. Regular inspection and cleaning of chimney flues will help prevent fires within chimneys. Have your chimney swept by a competent chimney sweep at least once a year, more if you regularly burn wood.
