Firefighters from Newquay and St Columb attended following a report from a neighbour of a smoke alarm actuating at a house and a smell of burning.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus forced entry into the house and found a small fire in the kitchen. One occupant was assisted to safety by the crews.
The fire was already out and the crews inspected to ensure the scene was left safe. Thanks to the neighbour, who correctly dialled 999 when they heard the smoke alarm, there was little damage to the property and the occupant was not injured.
General Fire Safety Advice:
Smoke alarms are essential in every house, primarily to alert the occupants to a fire to allow them to escape. Smoke alarms can also alert neighbours or passers-by to a problem, who can then call for the assistance of the fire brigade, potentially saving life and property.
