Electricity Cables Brought Down and Lorry Fire

One fire appliance from Liskeard and one fire appliance from Saltash are attending an incident where live electricity cables have been brought down and have started a fire involving a lorry.

The crews are standing-by awaiting confirmation from Western Power engineers on scene that the electricity supply has been isolated to the cables. One person, suffering an electric shock, has been left in care of ambulance personnel.

The A38 is currently closed in both directions and diversions are being set up. Police and the Higways Agency are also on scene.

Update 0620hrs: It has been confirmed that the supply to the power cables has been isolated. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using hosereels to damp down the fire.

Update 0720hrs: Fire crews have now left the scene. Remedial repairs to the barriers and carriageway are being carried out before the road can be reopened. If any further details are required, please contact Devon & Cornwall Police.
