Two fire appliances from Camborne attended reports of a garage on fire. The crews found the garage, measuring five metres by eight metres to be well alight. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hosereel and one jet to fight the fire. When it was confirmed that an acetylene cylinder was inside the garage, crews withdrew to a safe distance.
Firefighters are now cooling the cylinder using two monitors.
The road between Bolenowe and the junction with the B3280, the Praze-an-Beeble side of Four Lanes is closed and is expected to be for most of the day.
Update 0645hrs: A relief crew from Redruth is now taking over from Camborne crews. Damping down continues.
Update 2100hrs: Relief crews from Redruth have been in attendance throughout the day. The cylinder is being constantly cooled and temperature readings taken at regular intervals, which have shown some fluctuation during the day.
Update 2320hrs: The cylinder has been inspected and is cool. Firefighters have now left the incident but the road will remain closed until the cylinder is collected in the morning.
