Car Washed Into River

On reports of this incident, appliances from West Cornwall also the water rescue crews from Falmouth and St. Austell were mobilised, a vehicle was reported washed in to a river, assisting in the search were Devon & Cornwall Police, Cornwall Rescue Group and H. M. Coastguards also a search and rescue helicopter from Culdrose. One person manged to get out of the vehicle and alert the rescue services , a further three persons were listed as missing.

Update at 0900 hours: A joint search with all agencies involved is still continuing.

Update at 1000 hours: The search is still ongoing at this time.

Update at 1100 hours: It has now been confirmed that the body of a male was found at 0705 hours, the search is still continuing for two further occupants of the vehicle.

Devon and Cornwall Police have asked that anyone involved in the incident, who may have left the scene, make immediate contact quoting incident log 124 of 25th April.

Update at 1300 hours: Crews are still continuing a search of the area. The rescue tender has used its winch and recovered the vehicle from the river.

Update at 1400 hours: Crews are still continuing their search of the area.

Update at 1500 hours: A digger has now been brought in to assist in the search operations.

Update at 1600 hours: A Police Dive Team are now proceeding to search the incident area assisted by Fire Brigade and Coastguard personnel, diggers are also in attendance assisting with the search.

Update at 1700 hours: Crews are continuing with their extensive search, they will continue during daylight hours and recommence their search again in the morning.

Sunday 26th April. Update at 1200 hours: Water Safety Personnel from Falmouth are in attendance and are providing safety for Police dive teams, diggers are also again in attendance sifting through debris, Fire Brigade Officers and Senior Police Dive Officers are giving extra assistance. A sea king helicopter from RNAS Culdrose is also in attendance and searching the area.

Update at 1600 hours: Fire Brigade, Police and Coastguard personnel have now recovered a second body. Cornwall Fire Brigade are now leaving the scene. Colleagues in Cornwall & Devon Police and HM Coastguards are continuing their search at this time.
