Cornwall’s firefighters are attempting a mammoth walk along Cornwall’s picturesque coastal footpath to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West’s Precious Lives Appeal and the Fire Fighters Charity.
The idea for the ‘Feet on Fire’ fundraising marathon originated from firefighters at St Just Community fire station
The Feet on Fire team of walkers will be leaving Lands End on Friday 22nd May, walking up the south coast for 5 days and then driving across to the north coast and walking back again from Morwenstow to Lands End in 5 days covering an amazing 248 miles. The firefighters will sleep at community fire stations along the way and colleagues around the county are also supporting the walkers and their appeal by organising events during the week including:-
firefighters in Penzance aiming to ladder climb the height of the 3 peaks at the Wharfside shopping centre on Sat 23rd May;
a team from Falmouth Community Fire Station aiming to windsurf from Sennen Cove to St Martins in the Isles of Scilly for a cream tea on the beach (weather permitting);
Camborne based firefighter Nick Harvey is cycling from John O Groats to Lands End starting on 20th May.
Stewart Whitworth, a firefighter based at Penzance says: “All the firefighters are determined to raise as much money as possible for the two charities and our feet will be ‘on fire’ so please help soothe us on our way by sponsoring us.”
The web site address is www.justgiving.com/cornwallfire for donations to the Precious Lives Appeal. Sponsorship forms for donations to both charities are available at any of the Community Fire Stations.
The firefighters are inviting members of the public to join them for any section of the walk but would welcome a £20 donation if they do.

Precious Lives Appeal
Children's Hospice South West has been providing care and respite to families from across the South West of England for over 13 years firstly at Little Bridge House, North Devon, and more recently at Charlton Farm, North Somerset. Plans are now in place to extend this world class service into Cornwall.
A hospice in Cornwall will offer more choice to families across the South West on which hospice they choose to use. It will also provide a place closer to home for many families from Cornwall and Plymouth, who may find the journey to Little Bridge House and Charlton Farm too far, or would just be happier using a hospice closer to home and friends and family.
Children's Hospice South West's Precious Lives Appeal has been set up to fund the build of this much needed third hospice for the South West of England.
