Trenance Caravan Park, Treninnick Hill, Newquay at 19/07/2009 22:19

Firefighters from Newquay were quickly on scene following a report of an alarm sounding and smoke issuing from a caravan, with a person inside.

The fire crews found that there had been a chip pan fire in the caravan and they assisted the occupant to safety. On inspection, the fire was confirmed to be out. Following a search by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, it was confirmed that there was no-one else involved. An ambulance attended to check the casualty for smoke inhalation.

General Fire Safety Advice:
Dealing with a fire in your kitchen
If you do have a fire in the kitchen, don't take any risks - get everyone out and call 999.

If a pan catches fire:
don't move it - it is likely to be extremely hot
turn off the heat if it's safe to do so - but never lean over a pan to reach the controls
if you have a fire blanket, put it over the pan
don't use a fire extinguisher on a pan of oil - the force of the extinguisher can spread the fire
if you have put the fire out, leave the pan to cool completely
