Firefighters from Cornwall County Fire Brigade, as part of their Supporting Community Values work, are joining forces with the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, Falmouth Resource Centre and Dracaena Centre to organise a SAFE day for young people on 1 August 2009.
SAFE stands for Street Activities for Everyone and the day at the Dracaena Centre in Falmouth promises to be an action packed and fun filled event to bring together the young people from the local area and involve them in positive activities.
The day will run from 10am to 4pm and includes Wheels of Fire skate and BMX demos, coaching and competitions. Judged by Faltown skateboards, the competitions to test the skills of participants of all ages are supported by many local businesses with prizes from Grip skate shop, Freeriders and Sessions.
The police and RNLI will have stands at the event and there will be a show and shine car show.
Entry to the event and the competitions is free and everyone is welcome.
Tim Cocks, from Cornwall County Fire Brigade’s Supporting Community Values Project said: “In our involvement with young people, we try to convey the values that make the Fire Brigade such a respected service to the community. Projects such as SAFE are so important in helping young people focus on positive activities. With our partners we encourage them to focus on the need for individual discipline and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We hope to carry out many more events such as this one throughout Cornwall in the future.”
Cornwall Councillor Lance Kennedy, cabinet member for stronger communities commented: “This sort of initiative highlights the kind of opportunities that can be organised and offered to young people when we work together.”
Supporting Community Values is funded by the Big Lottery Fund.
