Person Trapped In Car In Water On Beach

Millendreath Beach, near Looe at 12/09/2009 20:42

Two fire appliances from Looe, one fire appliance from Liskeard and specialist water rescue units from St Austell and Falmouth were mobilised along with Coastguard, Ambulance and Police to a report of a person trapped in a car that was in water on the beach.

On arrival, the crews from Looe found that there was no-one in the car and the other fire crews were returned.

General Safety Advice:
Extra care should be taken when taking vehicles on to a beach.
Ensure that the surface is stable enough to take the weight of the vehicle.
Check tide times and check if where you have parked the vehicle will be in water as the tide comes in.
If you have parked below the high water mark, ensure that you move the vehicle in plenty of time. Consider what you would do if you are unable to start your vehicle or the wheels get stuck.

By taking extra care when enjoying the coast, you can prevent incidents arising that require assistance from the emergency services.
