Large Barn Fire

St Buryan, west of Penzance at 13/09/2009 23:40

Firefighters from St Just and Penzance were mobilised to reports of a barn on fire. A developing fire was clearly visible to the St Just crews as they raced to the scene, so further assistance was requested. Fire appliances from St Ives and Camborne were mobilised along with specialist support vehicles from Camborne, Falmouth and Truro.

The barn, measuring 50 metres by 10 metres, was 75% involved in fire. Upon the crews' arrival, the fire was in imminent danger of spreading to a nearby domestic property. The fire crews worked quickly to prevent this, using three jets, two hosereels and two breathing apparatus sets.

The fire was brought under control by 0220hrs and crews remained in attendance damping down for a further hour.

Two people have been taken to hospital by ambulance suffering smoke inhalation. No further information will be available on the condition of the casualties.

The cause of the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
