Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service is joining forces with Cornwall Council colleagues and partner organisations for an event aimed at the fabulous over 50’s.
The Fabulous Over 50’s Festival is a free event at Truro Town Hall on Friday 23 October between 10am and 4pm which brings together representatives from a host of organisations to provide information on their services and campaigns, many of which are aimed specifically at this age group.
Cornwall Fire and Rescue will be offering advice on community safety issues, including fire prevention and will be handing out goody bags with useful literature and free smoke detectors.
Firefighter Tom Randall from Truro Community Fire Station said: ‘‘It’s going to be a great opportunity for the public to gather a huge amount of information from a range of services and agencies and pick up lots of goodies along the way. Many of the organisations will be bringing stands full of brochures and offers on the day.”
Visitors to the event will be able to discuss employment opportunities with representatives from Job Centre Plus, sample delicious meals from Wiltshire Food, meet their local crime prevention officer from the Police,
discuss investment plans with Cornish Community Banking, talk to an advisor about the fantastic range of courses on offer at Truro College, discuss a wide range of issues with representatives from Age Concern, talk to health advisors and trainers about keeping fit and healthy.
Cornwall Council’s cabinet member for stronger communities Lance Kennedy said: “This is a great opportunity for the local community to come and meet council representatives and other organisations and to gather information which may help them improve their quality of life.”
