On the initial receipt of this call at 21:58 on Tuesday night, appliances from Camborne were mobilised, on arrival at the incident further resources were required, an appliance from Redruth and the water carrier from Penzance attended. The fire involved approximately 200 tonnes of wood on open ground, main jets were used at the incident, two tractors and front loaders were used to brake up the wood to assist in the extinguishment of the fire. Crews were delayed for a considerable time, with the appliances returning at approximately 0430 hours.
Update at 0700 hours: On reinspection of the incident, a review of resources required to deal with this incident was undertaken and further crews were required to damp down the fire due to the density of the large quantity of wood involved.
After further investigation this incident is believed to have started accidentally.
At 09:20 There are still two appliances from Camborne and a water carrier from Penzance working on the incident ground. Crews are relaying water using local hydrants supplying two main jets.
Update at 1800 hours: Throughout the afternoon industrial swing shovels and tractors have been in use dismantling the pile of wood, the fire was being fanned by strong winds, the crews continued to damp down during the afternoon, the water carrier from Penzance and one appliance from Camborne are still in attendance.
Update at 2000 hours: Crews have now left the scene and the incident has been handed over to the owner.
