At approximately 1800hrs the Fire and Rescue Service received several calls to a fire at Whitecross. Appliances from St Columb and Newquay were mobilised and on arrival found the fire to involve a portacabin, a large number of portaloos, an unknown number of cylinders and a diesel tank. Further pumping appliances and specialist vehicles were also mobilised to the incident and are now on scene. These are from Perranporth, Truro, St Austell, St Dennis and Bodmin. The fire is being fanned by high winds and firefighters are currently using four breathing apparatus, hose reels, jets, monitors and foam to extinguish the fire.
Further update at 21:26hrs, one appliance from Newquay is remaining on scene damping down any hotspots. The cause is believed to be accidental but a fire investigation will be carried out. All other appliances have now left the incident ground.
