Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service's Chief Fire officer Goes On the Road To Hear What the Public Want

at 08/12/2009 14:12

Cornwall Fire and Rescue’s Chief Fire Officer Des Tidbury is going on the road to give the public an opportunity to let him and his senior officers know first hand what you expect from the Service.

Des Tidbury and his senior officers will be out and about on Christmas Late night shopping evenings asking you for your thoughts and comments on the Services’ proposed vision and priorities. They will also be delivering Christmas Safety messages to help you and your family keep safe over the Christmas holidays.

Officers will be in:

Truro town centre on the 9 December,

Falmouth on the 10,

St Austell on the 16 and 23 and

Penzance on the 17 December.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Chief Fire Officer Des Tidbury said: “I’m looking forward to meeting as many people as possible and hope that they will spare the time to let me know what they think about the vision and how the Service proposes to achieve it by Working Together for a Safer Cornwall. We want the people of Cornwall to let us know if they agree with the priorities we have identified and how they rate their importance.”

The 13 week public consultation asks for feedback and comments on the proposed vision which sets out what the Service aims to achieve as

Reaching Everyone, for a Safer Cornwall, by Understanding our Environment.

The public consultation phase follows on from engagement sessions with staff, partners, elected members and the public to develop the vision and priorities which are now being put up for public consultation.

Once public opinion has been gathered and analysed, the final draft of the service plan will be presented to elected members for final sign off in March 2010.

The full details of the proposed vision, mission and priorities are set out in a summary leaflet available on line or by post.

Cabinet member for stronger communities Lance Kennedy said: “This is an opportunity for all the communities in Cornwall to have their say in how this vital service develops over the coming years.”

The consultation period runs until 12 noon on January 25 2010.

The online questionnaire, details of the consultation process and the summary leaflet can be found at: www.cornwall.gov.uk/fireconsultation.
