Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service Invites Owners of Modified Cars To Show off their Vehicles To Fast Car Magazine

at 08/12/2009 14:13

Firefighters from Falmouth Community Fire Station are hosting an event with Fast Car Magazine, VOSPA and Cornwall Fire and Rescue Road Safety team to give owners of modified vehicles a chance to show off their pride and joy and at the same time spread important safety messages.

The event at Falmouth Community Fire Station will take place on 4 December from 6pm with Fast Car Magazine staff judging a competition, focussing on safe and legal modifications, to find the smartest vehicle.

Watch Manager, Martyn Addinall from Falmouth Community Fire Station explains: “The number of road traffic collisions are always a cause for concern and through events like this, we at Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service want to encourage car enthusiasts to become road safety ambassadors for the Fire Service. We want to get the message out to young and impressionable people that safety is hugely important. We will be screening the latest RUSH road safety video and asking drivers what they think of it and how we can improve the material we use to get across important safety messages.”

RUSH is an awareness scheme originally put together by Kent Fire and Rescue which is aimed at students between the ages of 14 and 16 to educate them about the potential risks of being involved in a road crash, either as a driver or a passenger, using a video and photos to get the message across.

Cornwall Council’s cabinet member for stronger communities Lance Kennedy said: “This is another example of how the Fire and Rescue Service is continually looking at new and innovative ways to engage with different groups to help spread community safety messages.”
