Property Fire

Trevithick Crescent, Hayle at 10/12/2009 21:57

Two crews from Camborne and one from St Ives attended a domestic property on fire. On the initial call it was believed that the occupier of the property was still inside and flames and smoke were seen coming from the window of a rear downstairs room.

Upon the crews' arrival, the ground floor of the semi detached property was well alight and the occupier of the property had escaped the building. Firefighters used four breathing apparatus, two jets, one hosereel and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire in the two storey house.

One female casualty was treated on scene by Ambulance paramedics and left in care of a neighbour. Western Power engineers attended the incident to isolate the properties electrics and make it safe. A neighbouring property was also damaged by smoke from the fire.

Fortunately on this occasion the occupant of the property involved in the fire escaped relatively unscathed. The fire was caused by a candle that had fallen over on a table. Candles are a rising cause of fires in the home. Every year, a growing number of people are killed or injured because they are careless with them.

It is also essential that you have working smoke detectors to make sure you protect your family and yourself by giving an early warning of fire. If you do not have a smoke alarm, call our freephone telephone number: 0800 3581 999, and we can arrange to install one for you free of charge. If you already have one, make sure you regularly test that they work.
