At soon after 0600hrs this morning, 25 January 2010, fire crews from St Columb and Newquay were mobilised to reports of a property fire.

The fire crews were confronted with a severe fire in a house and they immediately got to work to prevent the fire spreading to the adjoining house. It was confirmed that everyone had been evacuated but an ambulance was requested for one occupant suffering smoke inhalation.

Assistance was requested and fire appliances were mobilised from Newquay and St Dennis, water carriers from Newquay and Bodmin, an operational support vehicle from St Austell and a command support vehicle from Truro.

The blaze, which has extensively damaged the house measuring six metres by four metres, was brought under control by 0830hrs. Firefighters used eight sets of breathing apparatus, three jets and two hosereels to extinguish the fire. Fire crews were detained for some considerable time damping down, with the last crews leaving the scene at 1300hrs.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing.
