Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service are dealing with an incident involving a vessel approximately 3 miles off Falmouth. Fire & Rescue Service personnel are being transferred to the vessel Oscar Wilde, a passenger ferry which has no passengers on board but a crew of 113. The crew are not in any danger and are carrying out initial fire fighting.
Update at Midnight: Working in close association with colleagues at Falmouth Coastguard and RNAS Culdrose, two teams of Fire & Rescue personnel were transferred to the vessel. Crews proceeded to the area of the fire in the engine room, crews monitored the area and confirmed that the fire was contained, they continued to monitor the compartment, crews were recovered to the shore by helicopter as the fire was deemed extinguished, the vessel will be brought alongside in the morning and crews will reinspect the vessel.
