Smoke-filled Market Building

Five pumping appliances, an aerial ladder platform and an operational support vehicle are in attendance at a fire inside an indoor-market building.

The building, measuring 40 metres by 20 metres is completely smoke-logged. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have located the area involved in fire and efforts are being made to extinguish.

Two further fire appliances have now been requested as the fire situation has worsened.

Further information will be posted, as and when it becomes available.

Fire crews are attending from Camborne, Penzance, Redruth, St Ives, Helston and specialist units from Truro and Falmouth.

Update 1115hrs: Firefighters have worked hard in difficult conditions and are making good progress. A total of 24 breathing appratus sets have been used along with two jets, two hosereels and thermal imaging cameras.

Update 1345hrs: The fire has now been declared under control. A total of 30 breathing apparatus sets were used. Positive pressure ventilation fans are being used to clear the smoke from the building. A fire investigation has commenced, although the fire is not believed to be suspicious.

Update 1520hrs: The fire investigation team have been unable to rule out arson, so the police have been requested to return to the scene.

Udate 1735hrs: The last crew has now left the scene. The fire investigation will continue in the morning.
