Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service has published its Service Plan for the next 3 years. The plan explains how CFRS will further improve the service it provides to the communities of Cornwall under the banner ‘Working Together to Make Cornwall Safer’.
The document includes an Integrated Risk Management Plan which sets out the key risks that affect communities, such as house fires or road traffic collisions, and explains how the Fire and Rescue Service intends to address those risks through its three main functions - Prevention, Protection and Response.
As CFRS Chief Fire Officer Des Tidbury explains: “Preventing the incidents from happening is our main objective but maintaining our capacity to deliver a quick, effective and sustained emergency response also remains essential.”
A 13 week consultation which included residents, members of Cornwall Council, Town and Parish Councils, partner organisations and colleagues within Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service and Cornwall Council as a whole has fed into the CFRS Service Plan and helped develop the vision and priorities.
Chief Fire Officer Des Tidbury said: “We do not carry out our work in isolation and will continue to work closely with our local partners, the other emergency services, our colleagues in Cornwall Council, the voluntary sector and local people and business to improve the safety and quality of life for our Cornish communities”.
Cabinet member for stronger communities Lance Kennedy said: “This document brings together our two main areas of focus; how Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service will concentrate on making Cornwall safer and the Improvement Plan which describes how we aim to make the organisation more effective and efficient. The Service Plan by its very nature is forward looking but does not stop us from continuing to look for new ways to improve the CFRS during its three year lifespan. I commend the hard work of everyone involved in bringing this Service Plan to the table and giving us the blueprint for moving forward.”
