Fire In Block of Flats

At 01.19 this morning, CFRS recieved a call to a fire in flat in Falmouth. Two appliances from Falmouth were mobilised to the incident. On arrival at the scene a request was made for assistance, three further appliances were mobilised. Crews were faced with a serious fire in the ground floor flat of a three storey block of flats and smoke was entering the flats above. Two elderly casualties were rescued from two flats on the third floor using two 13.5 metre ladders, they were later taken to hospital by West Country Ambulance Service. A further six occupants were taken in and given shelter for the night by neighbours. Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one jet and two hosereels to extinguish the fire. Additional appliances came from Helston, Redruth and Truro.

Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service have now completed their investigation. Further details may be obtained from Devon & Cornwall Police.
