Flashpoint Lifeskills Centre To Host Free Safety Courses For Parents As Part of Child Safety Week

at 10/05/2010 09:07

The Flashpoint Lifeskills Centre in Bodmin, part of Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service’s community safety team, is offering free safety courses for parents of pre-school children as part of Child Safety Week in June.

Parents of young children are invited to book a place at one of six sessions to be held over 21, 22 and 23 June at Flashpoint, Cornwall’s exciting interactive learning centre. The 2 hour sessions will be at 10am and 1pm on each of the three days.

Parents will able to tour seven of the twelve realistic scenarios on offer at Flashpoint to experience and confront potentially dangerous and hazardous situations in complete safety.

They will be offered expert advice and given the opportunity to discuss keeping children safe from accidental injury as well as look at specialist safety equipment.

Child Safety Week is the Child Accident Prevention Trust’s flagship community education campaign. It aims to raise awareness of the number of accidents that seriously injure or kill children and how to prevent them.

This three day series of events at Flashpoint provides an opportunity to give parents safety advice in a fun and engaging way and help parents learn how to fit safety into their busy lives.

The sessions are open to anyone with pre-school children. Unfortunately the centre cannot accommodate children on this occasion.

This initiative has been made possible by Flashpoint working together with its volunteer team, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service’s Community Fire Safety Advisors and the Children and Young People's Unintentional Injuries Co-ordinator from the Primary Care Trust.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service’s Flashpoint Lifeskills Centre has been accredited by RoSPA under the LASER scheme. It is designed to cater for groups of all abilities and all ages over 5.

As places are limited it is essential to book in advance. Those attending the event will have free entry to a raffle with prizes to help keep young children safe.

If you wish to reserve a place for one of the sessions or to find out more detail, please telephone Flashpoint on 01208 72087 or e-mail info@flashpointcentre.co.uk
