Firefighters from Penzance used one hosereel to extinguish an out-of-control bonfire.
General Fire Safety Advice:
Never light a bonfire near to other combustible materials, such as sheds, wood piles, fences etc.
Keep the bonfire to an easily manageable size.
Do not leave the bonfire unattended.
Have the means to extinguish the fire, should it get out-of-control.
Have with you a mobile telephone or be within a short distance of a home telephone so that if the fire does get out-of-control, you can quickly call out the Fire & Rescue Service by dialling 999.
Just before you light your bonfire, please inform Fire Control on 01872 320205, giving the exact location of the fire, your name and a telephone contact number (preferably a mobile telephone that you have with you). This will help us avoid sending fire engines to false alarms when they could be responding to a real emergency.
