Avril Everett from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service has been awarded a MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Avril has been a member of Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service staff since 2001. In addition to her role in the service, she has worked tirelessly as a volunteer to raise funds for The Fire Fighters Charity.
Avril serves on local committees to help organise and promote fundraising events such as the hugely popular Ladies Driving Challenge. She is also involved in welfare provision to beneficiaries in need within Cornwall as well as working on national issues within the charity.
Avril said: “I feel very honoured to be awarded this level of recognition and extremely proud that this was achieved through being part of the Cornwall Fire and Rescue team.”
Deputy Chief Fire Officer Paul Walker said” We are all very proud of Avril who works tirelessly to support both the beneficiary and welfare side of the Charity as well as fund raising to support the services provided by the Fire Fighters Charity.”
Cornwall Council cabinet member for community safety, Lance Kennedy said: “I want to heartily congratulate Avril on receiving this great honour. Cornwall, by virtue of its location, attracts a lot of members of the service and their families including widows of former members from across the country. The support they receive from The Fire Fighters Charity is invaluable. Avril does a huge amount of work for the charity and does a wonderful job in her fundraising work.”
A MBE is awarded to individuals for achievement or service in and to the community which is outstanding in its field or for very local 'hands-on' service which stands out as an example to others.
