Barn Fire

Congdons Shop, Bodmin side of Launceston at 15/07/2010 02:22


At 0222hrs this morning Cornwall Fire Control received a call to a barn full of hay on fire. Two fire appliances from Launceston, one fire appliance from Callington and the Water Carrier from Bodmin were mobilised.

On arrival the fire crews from Launceston reported that a large farm building was well alight and the fire was threatening an adjoining building. An additional fire appliance was requested, which attended from Bodmin, along with the Command Support Vehicle from Truro and an Operational Support Vehicle from St Austell.

The crews are fighting the fire using two jets and one ground monitor supplied from a hydrant and four breathing apparatus.

Update 0515hrs: Firefighting conitnues. Relief crews from Lostwithiel and Liskeard are now in attendance along with the crews from Callington, Bodmin and St Austell. The Water Carrier from Bodmin and the crews from Launceston and Truro have been returned.

Update 0615hrs: Good progress is being made by the fire crews. Hay is now being removed from the barn and damping down is in progress.
