At 1927hrs Cornwall Fire Control received a call to a set of flats which were full of smoke. Two appliances were immediately mobilised from Falmouth. Upon their arrival crews requested ‘Make Pumps Three’. An appliance from Truro was forwarded onto the incident, along with a Land Rover from Falmouth. The building involved measured 40 x 20 meters and covered three floors plus a basement. The building comprised of 8 flats. The fire started in a flat when an occupant fell asleep after putting a pan of fat on the cooker. The pan on the cooker had overheated and caught alight filling the building of smoke.
Crews tackled the fire using 4 breathing apparatus and two hosereel jets. One 70 year old male was treated on scene for smoke inhalation. Crews fitted smoke alarms in the property once the incident had been dealt with.
