Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service Rise To the Shelterbox Challenge

at 03/08/2010 12:12

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service Watch Manager Martyn Addinall and firefighters from Blue Watch at Falmouth Community Fire Station could not resist an additional challenge when they joined volunteers to take part in the

Big ShelterBox Sleep Out in Event Square in Falmouth.

As Martyn explains: “A Shelter Box team member challenged us to their ShelterBox competition, which involves three people getting themselves and a ShelterBox over an obstacle approx 10 feet high and beating the record time of 20.5 seconds.

Obviously being fire fighters we are not a competitive bunch, however we thought it would be rude not to accept! Our first attempt was good although we nearly forgot the Shelter Box and we clocked a time of 21 seconds. After applying a little pressure, we were allowed another go and this time we came in with a time of 19 seconds – a new record.

The Big ShelterBox Sleep Out offered willing volunteers the chance to spend a night in one of the famous ShelterBox disaster relief tents in return for raising much needed funds to enable the world renowned charity to continue providing shelter, warmth and dignity to those affected by disasters around the world.
