Small Fire Involving Pan Left On Cooker

Trecarrell Close, Launceston at 08/09/2010 18:05

Two fire appliances from Launceston attended reports of a smoke alarm sounding and a smell of burning.

A pan had been left on a cooker, resulting in a small fire. The fire crews inspected to ensure all was safe and a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the smoke.

A working smoke alarm in this property ensured that there was early notification of a problem. The quick response of neighbours, the occupant and the Fire Service ensured that the problem did not progress to a serious incident.

General Fire Safety Advice:
The cooker
Keep electrical leads from trailing over or going near the cooker
Don't hang tea-towels or cloths on or over the cooker and don't put oven gloves down on the cooker after you've used them
Keep the oven, hob and grill clean as a build-up of fat and bits of food can start a fire
Don't leave pans on the hob when you're not around - take them off the heat if you have to leave the kitchen (even if you think it will only be for a moment, while you answer the door or phone)
