Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service firefighters who are part of the Fire and Ice fundraising team, are inviting intrepid souls to join them in a charity abseil event on 02 October to raise money for four deserving charities.

An 80ft abseil down a cliff face at Lusty Glaze beach in Newquay awaits those who can raise a minimum of £50 sponsorship per person (£200 per team of six).

The ‘Fire and Ice’ team of firefighters are staging a series of fundraising events in support of The Fire Fighters Charity ; Help for Heroes ; Children with Leukaemia and BF Adventure .

Firefighter James Marks based at Bodmin Community Fire Station said: “Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service's Fire and Ice Team have once again joined together with our friends at BF Adventure and Lusty Glaze to bring you a sponsored abseil. The last time we teamed up was back in 2006, abseiling at the National Maritime Museum Falmouth and at the Eden Project St Austell. The events were a huge success, raising over £12,000 for 3 charities - The Fire Fighters Charity, Children with Leukaemia and BF Adventure. This time we are also raising money for Help For Heroes. We wanted to bring you something different this time and this is where our friends at Lusty Glaze come in. They have kindly let us use their site for the day. An 80ft cliff face which descends onto one of Cornwall's most beautiful beaches. All you have to do is raise a minimum sponsorship of £50 per individual or £200 per team of 6. There is a prize for the most money raised for both individual and team entrants”.

Following their successful expedition to Iceland in 2006 when they raised more than £21,000 for charity, the Fire and Ice team are now planning an attempt to summit a 6200m peak Imja Tse in the Everest region of the Himalayas.
