If you are looking for a Christmas gift with a difference, or you just want to treat yourself whilst raising money for a very good cause, then the Ladies Driving Challenge could be for you.
Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service is once again supporting the Ladies Driving Challenge, in aid of The Fire Fighters Charity, which will take place on Sunday 20 March 2011 at RAF Portreath. The challenge is to drive a wide variety of weird, wonderful , large and unusual vehicles including fire appliances, trucks and tractors, all kindly lent by local organisations.
Event Organiser, Pauline Tyldesley said, “The Ladies’ Driving Challenge promises to be an exciting day, with the chance to operate a fantastic collection of vehicles. Other types of driving events can be uncomfortably competitive with an emphasis on speed and this has been known to put off some women. The women only challenge is much more relaxed with the focus on handling vehicles with skill and enjoying new experiences, as well as raising money for a good cause.”
Each Ladies’ Driving Challenge is unique but at any given event you can look forward to driving at least four or five different types of vehicle, with expert tuition throughout, ensuring you enjoy the special day to the full.
To take control of the wheel for a day will cost £100 or you can pay a £10 registration fee and raise a minimum amount of £90 in sponsorship. The Ladies’ Driving Challenge makes a fantastic Christmas, birthday, anniversary, Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day present, so if you know someone who would enjoy the experiences this event offers, buy them a gift voucher or why not get a group of friends together for the ultimate girls day out. To purchase a gift voucher contact Pauline Tyldesley at PTyldesley@firefighterscharity.org.uk
Pauline Tyldesley explained, “Behind the fun, there is a very serious message that we are supporting those heroic firefighters who risk their lives for us. When they run into a burning building, there is always the very real risk of serious injury and when the worst happens not only firefighters suffer, but also their families. The Fire Fighters Charity helps support injured firefighters, both physically and emotionally, enabling them to return to work faster. The Charity receives no Government funding and relies entirely on beneficiary and public donations”.
