Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service Take Delivery of a Brand New Motorbike To Promote Bike Road Safety

at 14/01/2011 10:08

Efforts by Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service to educate and promote road safety to motorbike users have been given a boost thanks to the generosity of JD Racing of Saltash. They have arranged with bike manufacturer KTM for a new SMT 990 to be delivered to CFRS on free loan for a year.

The new fire engagement bike will help the CFRS to deliver road safety information to motorbike users as firefighter and road safety advisor Darren Berrey explains: “For many years our service has been aware of the risk to the motorcyclist on Cornwall’s roads. Motorcyclists make up only 1% of road users yet account for 26% of road fatalities.

I felt that we needed a suitable engagement vehicle to attract motorcyclists into the CFRS stands at events so I approached JD Racing of Saltash who were only too willing to help.

I have undertaken advanced training to be able to ride the bike on behalf of the service and to be in a position to talk to riders at bike related events, about a safe riding approach.”

If you feel you have a road or motorcycle related event and wish the fire bike to attend then Darren Berrey can be contacted direct on 01872 327273.
