Two Female Casualties Rescued From Car Driven off Cliff

At 2222hrs Cornwall Fire and Rescue service received a call from Devon and Cornwall Police stating that a car had left the road, and had gotten stuck on the cliff near the Falmouth Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre, just past the Point on Castle Drive, Falmouth. The Fire Service mobilised two Major appliances from Falmouth, an Operational Support Unit from Falmouth and specialist Line rescue kit from Camborne to the incident. Cornwall Fire and Rescue service worked along Coastguard, South West Ambulance paramedics and Police on this multi-agency rescue.
Coastguards set up line rescue equipment and at 2239hrs it was confirmed that the two female occupants had been removed from the vehicle. One casualty was suffering from head injuries and one was suffering back injuries. The casualties injuries were assessed on scene by Paramedics with the assistance of Coastguards and Fire crews. Once a decision on the method of casualty recovery was made, Fire crews assisted Inshore Lifeboat crew and Coastguards with moving the casualties down the cliff into the Inshore Lifeboat. Once in the lifeboat the casualties were then transferred into the RNLI all weather lifeboat. The casualties were then transferred to hospital.
