Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service’s Fire and Ice fundraising team is staging its first half marathon on Sunday 27 March to raise funds for three worthwhile charities.
Anyone over the age of 17 on race day is welcome to take part.
Starting at 10am from the Dragon Leisure Centre in Bodmin, the thirteen mile run will take in the beautiful grounds of the National Trust’s Lanhydrock House.
The half marathon is the latest in a series of fundraising events devised by CFRS Fire and Ice team who have already mounted a daring expedition in 2006 which involved crossing the third largest glacier in the world at Vatnajokull in Iceland.
There are now plans for Fire and Ice to take on another ‘little’ trip to raise money for the three charities; The Fire Fighters Charity ; Help for Heroes and Children with Leukaemia. This time they are going up and not across when in March 2012 they will attempt to summit a 6200m peak Imja Tse in the Everest region of the Himalayas.
Firefighter James Marks who is organising the half marathon said: “This is a great event for all runners over the age of 17 who want to enjoy the marvellous beauty of the grounds at Lanhydrock as they tackle the 13 miles of multi terrain and raise money for these three very worthwhile charities. There will be T Shirts for all finishers and prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place male and female finishers. The entry fee is £16 per person or £14 for affiliated club runners. Entry fee on the day is £18.”
