Serious Fire Involving Wooden Chalet

At 2200hrs, 14 February 2011, two fire appliances from St Austell were mobilised to reports of a fire at Trewhiddle Park, just south of St Austell.

Firefighters arrived on scene within ten minutes and were confronted with a severe fire involving a wooden chalet, measuring approximately six metres by ten metres. Two further fire appliances were requested, which attended from Mevagissey and Fowey.

Firefighters, some wearing breathing apparatus, used a jet and hosereels to extinguish the fire. Fire crews will remain in attendance for some considerable time damping down.

This is a serious incident and a joint fire and police investigation has commenced to determine the cause of the fire. The investigation will continue in daylight.
