Bonfire Spread To Tyres

Two fire appliances from St Mawes were mobilised to a report that a bonfire had spread to some tyres.

On arrival, the fire crews found that the fire was threatening to spread to some dwellings and requested further assistance. One fire appliance from Truro and one fire appliance from Mevagissey were mobilised.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one jet and two hosereels to stop the fire spreading. Approximately 200 tyres and some plastic sheeting were involved in the fire, which was brought under control by 1200hrs. Asbestos was also involved and a decontamination unit and support crew attended from Bodmin.

Firefighters will remain on scene for a time, decontaminating equipment.
