REDRUTH ROTARY CLUB DONATE £545 TO SAVE LIVES

A generous donation has been made by the Redruth Rotary Club to Cornwall County Fire Brigade to help towards the purchasing and fitting of smoke alarms. The Fire Brigade will install the alarms in the houses of the most vulnerable in Redruth. The large donation will provide 76 Kidde Safety alarms with a life span of 10 years each and the Fire Brigade will be fitting the alarms in the homes of the most vulnerable in the next few months.

The presentation of the cheque took place at the Penventon Hotel. The President of the Rotary Club presented the cheque to Sub Officer Cliff Shaw and Station Officer Kevin Thomas.

The kind donation of £545 was originally £400 but a further £145 was collected from the Presidents Raffle. The Rotary Club of Redruth raises money from a variety of fundraising activities throughout the year.

The President stated “It is good that we are able to help this scheme and assist in protecting the elderly and vulnerable of the area”.

Station Officer Kevin Thomas said, “We are very grateful to the Rotary Club of Redruth for their very kind donation, the provision of these alarms will make a real improvement to the safety of elderly residents within the Redruth area.”

The smoke alarm campaign started two years ago in an effort to ensure a working smoke alarm is fitted in the households of the people most at risk. The Brigade purchases alarms with money donated by local businesses and councils.
