Large Gorse Fire
Near Penhale, Goonhilly Downs, Lizard at 03/03/2011 14:42
Two crews from Mullion and one from St Keverne attended a call to a gorse fire on the Lizard. The call came from RNAS Culdrose and the fire had been spotted from passing aircraft. Crews access the fire on foot accross the downs. A short time after their arrival crews made pumps two and St Keverne were mobilised to the gorse fire. Two Fire Officers specially trained in managing Wildfires also attended the incident. The size of the fire was 10 hectares and crews used beaters to extinguished the fire. It is believed that the fire was started deliberately, Devon and Cornwall Police have been informed.
