Thatched Roof Fire - Update 0800hrs

Just over 50 firefighters from Mullion, St Keverne, Helston, Falmouth, Camborne and Truro are fighting a fire involving a thatched roof.

The fire totally involves the thatched roof of a two-storey farmhouse, measuring 15 metres by 10 metres. Firefighters, some wearing breathing apparatus, are fighting the fire using two hosereels and water is being relayed to the incident.

Update 2220hrs: Firefighting is continuing, now using three jets.

Update 2330hrs: Firefighters are turning over and damping down. Breathing apparatus is still being worn.

Update 0100hrs: The fire is now under control. Firefighters continue to damp down and no longer need to wear breathing apparatus.

Update 0330hrs: A relief crew from Perranporth is now at the scene, with the crew continuing to damp down. All other crews have returned or will be returning shortly.

Update 0800hrs: The crew from Perranporth are still damping down. A crew from Mullion has just arrived to take over and the water carrier from Helston is replenishing the water supplies.

The cause of the fire is accidental.

Two fire appliances from Mullion, two fire appliances from St Keverne, two fire appliances and the water carrier from Helston, two fire appliances from Falmouth, one fire appliance from Camborne and the command support vehicle from Truro were in attendance at the height of the blaze.
