Gorse Fire

On receipt of this call, one appliance from Launceston was initially mobilised, on arrival further resources were requested and further appliances from Launceston and Callington also the Land Rover from Callington attended, the crews were faced with two fire fronts of approximately a quarter of a mile each, Cornwall Fire & Rescue personnel are using high pressure hosereels and beaters to extinguish the fires. The incident is being supported by the welfare vehicle from St. Dennis.

Update at 2200 hours: The incident is still ongoing, one fire front has now been extinguished, crews are still deployed extinguishing the other fire.

Update at 2245 hours: The fires have now been extinguished, crews are delayed for a considerable time damping down and monitoring the area. All main appliances returned to home stations by approimately 2345 hours

Arson is suspected, Devon & Cornwall Police have attended and will be pursuing their enquiries after reported sighting of a vehicle in the vicinity.
