Flashpoint Lifeskills Centre in Bodmin, the exciting interactive learning centre which simulates potentially dangerous and hazardous situations to deliver safety messages, has achieved re accreditation under the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accident’s scheme, Learning about Safety by Experiencing Risk.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service Chief Fire Officer and chairman of Flashpoint, Des Tidbury, was presented with the certificate by RoSPA’s Head of Leisure and Water Safety, Peter Cornall at the centre in Bodmin.

Peter Cornall said: “The Flashpoint Lifeskills Centre has had to meet very high standards to achieve this accreditation and it is an acknowledgment of the great work done here to give children the skills to keep themselves safe whilst enjoying an active and adventurous life.”

The Centre first achieved accredited status under the stringent conditions in 2007 and has again been tested under strict criteria to prove the quality of the experience provided for children from Cornwall’s schools, visiting Flashpoint.

Receiving the certificate, Des Tidbury said: “I am delighted to receive this accreditation and I want to pay tribute to the hard work of the staff and particularly the volunteers in achieving this award. It is important that schools appreciate the value of the Flashpoint experience and can trust that there will be positive and effective outcomes, leading ultimately to safer communities.”

Flashpoint Lifeskills Centre manager, Ellen McConnell said: “I want to thank everyone who has helped with the accreditation process and in particular to the wonderful team of volunteers without whom the centre would not be able to carry out its valuable work.”
