Person Rescued From House Fire

Eddystone Rise, Liskeard at 30/04/2011 21:23

At 21:23 hrs on Saturday evening Cornwall Fire Control received a call to a property on fire with the occupant still inside the building. Two crews from Liskeard were mobilised to the property where a neighbour was reporting flames visible at the windows. The property was a semi detached domestic property of two floors. On crews arrival the female resident had been rescued from the property by two neighbours who had to break into the premise to rescue her and her dog. On their arrival Fire crews used four breathing apparatus, one main jet connected to a hydrant and a hose reel to fight the fire. The fire was located in the properties kitchen and conservatory.
At 22:02 hrs crews ‘Made Pumps Three’ for breathing apparatus standby. At 22:08 hrs the fire in the property was believed out. Breathing apparatus was reduced and a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to remove smoke from the premise. Crews used a covering jet to damp the fire down and isolated the gas and electricity supply to the premise. Police and ambulance attended this incident.
By 22:24 hrs the female casualty, who suffered smoke inhalation was taken to hospital via land Ambulance.
This fire was believed to have started accidentally. A fire investigation will be carried out as a result of this fire.

After investigation it was clear that this premise had no smoke detectors. If smoke detectors had been fitted and working in the premise, the occupant may have been alerted to the fire before it had taken hold, reducing damage to the property.

In this case if it was not for the quick action of this person neighbours the outcome of the fire may have been a lot more serious!

Fire alarms save lives.
