Two fire appliances from St Austell and one fire appliance from Fowey were mobilised following a 999 call, where a smoke alarm could clearly be heard but the caller could not be understood.
The technology in the Truro-based Fire Control allows the location of a landline call to be displayed, so the fire appliances were sent to that address, whilst a fire control operator stayed on the line to try and gather further details.
On arrival, the fire crews found that there had been a fire involving items left on an oven. They inspected and confirmed the fire was out and the occupant was placed in care of ambulance personnel to be checked over as a precaution.
It was fortunate for the occupant that they had a working smoke alarm in their property and, by calling from their home telephone, Fire Control was able to send help even though they were unable to verbally give their address.
