Large Hay and Straw Stack On Fire

St Minver, Wadebridge at 03/06/2011 14:21

At 14:21 hrs Cornwall Fire Control received a call to around 30 straw bales on fire. Two crews from Wadebridge and a Crew from Bodmin were mobilised. On crews arrival they discovered 150 bales of hay and straw involved in the fire with prevailing winds pushing the fire towards a cattle shed with 200 animals in it. Crews soon ‘Made Pumps Three’ and a third major appliance from Delabole were mobilised.
Due to the size of the fire the incident was sectorised, crews used two breathing apparatus, three hose reels and two main jets on the fire. The farmer assisted Fire crews by removing bales from the stack using a telehandler. It is believed that this fire started when sparks from an angle grinder caught the stack alight. Crews from Wadebridge will be remaining on scene for some time damping down and turning over.
